Salam and Greetings CyberSAFE Readers,

The internet can be an overwhelmingly positive experience for our children in their endeavour to enhance the acquisition of knowledge. However, there are some very real risks associated with internet use. Online gaming, cyber chatting, social networking, blogging and the worst – accessing porn and malicious sites can badly influence their social development and character building. It’s important for us, as good parents, to know how to deal with these issues. In the present day environment, we are increasingly unable to provide continuous supervision while they’re online. Therefore parental control softwares can help us to manage their computer use in a way that is appropriate to their age group.

However, parental control softwares should never be a substitute in educating children about the dangers of being online. It has always been advised to ‘always keep an open communication with your children’.
