VDT (Video Display Terminal) Syndrome is the general term for diseases associated with physical and psychological disorders caused by spending too much time watching television and video and using the computer.
The excessive, repetitive use of computer in a poor environment with improper posture may lead to neck and shoulder pain, eye fatigue and psychological problems.
VDTs include computer monitors and television and video screens. The visual impetus from looking at a monitor screen is as strong as that of viewing television at close sight. In addition, computer overuse causes muscle spasms, spinal disorders and poor posture. Eating and sleeping problems as well as mental disorders such as headaches and a lack of concentration are being investigated as major symptoms.
VDT Syndrome is caused by poor posture during prolonged computer use. Electromagnetic waves coming from computers, the size and location of monitors, peripherals such as desks, chairs and keyboards that do not fit children, interior lighting and airflow will also result in VDT Syndrome. |
