If your child has a webpage or blog, please ensure that your child follows the suggested guideline when posting information on the internet. A secure webpage should not contain:
- real name – a nickname should be used instead
- names of friends or family members
- home or school address
- home phone number / cellular number
- photos
- school name
- any other piece of information that could identify your child
In addition, you should read the section where other user can add comments in order to make sure your child is not giving out information or receiving inappropriate messages. If the website has links to other websites, pictures, or videos, it must be checked as well.
It is extremely important to be aware of the information that your child shares on a blog, a webpage. Child will often leave clues behind without even knowing it. A predator will spend hours examining every single piece of information to track that your child down.
Make sure you visit your child’s website regularly and that the Internet safety rules you have established are respected by them. |
