The online environment surrounding children and their Internet habits should be monitored regularly to prevent VDT Syndrome. In order to create a supportive environment for children, we should first provide them with furniture and a mouse suitable for their size and a protective screen for their eyesight. Computer desks and chairs need to be comfortable and sturdy. Computers must be located in a place that minimizes light reflection and we must position the monitor at a comfortable viewing distance and angle.
The right posture when using a computer
- Sit in an upright position and keep your back flat against the back of the chair.
- Put both feet together and sit up straight.
- Place your hands neatly on the keyboard.
- Allow your wrist and palm to be horizontal when using a keyboard and use a wrist rest and mouse pad.
- Sit about 40-50cm away from the monitor.
- Exercise after you finish using the computer.
Ideal environment for computer use
- Position your computer screen at right angles to windows for maintaining the effectiveness of indirect lighting.
- Provide a lamp with a dimmer and control brightness.
- Clean your monitor to reduce glare.
- Select a computer desk and chair designed for small children.
- Place your monitor below eye level.
